Question by : Pre Med student volunteering at local children hospital.?
I am a freshman in college and I was thinking about volunteering at the local children hospital. I am planning to volunteer there for the next 4 years.Does volunteering at the children hospital, look good when you apply to medical school.

Answer by Mary T
i just graduated from college. not premed, but i can tell you this at least. anything you can put on a resume, which im sure you could possibly need to apply to med school, is a plus. besides, volunteering will show the future med school you are serious about becoming a doctor. definitely look into requirements and at a med school application. it will give you a better idea of what they are potentially looking for.

Question by Tracey Boo: Why do hunger relief charities never show ALL hungry children?
I have always noticed and it has always bothered me that in the commercials to help hungry children all over the world, they never show hungry anglo children. They always show african, black, latino children as the ones in need as if white kids around the world don’t suffer these types of problems. True enough these race classes do suffer, but it’s like these charities don’t want to depict anglo-saxon aka white children in an offensive or non positive light. Suffering doesn’t discriminate. Is there a sensable reason for the bias?

Yeah I think that about sums it up.
Probably the same reason why when crime goes down in black neighborhood, the news coverage triples to make it seem like things are even worse than before.
Truly sick how they use these poor children to further their agenda.

Question by Shane: do you think its strange when adults get life insurance for their children?
Don’t you think its a bit strange when an adult person wants life insurance for their child. Doesn’t it seem like they are up to no good?

Answer by MK
I don’t think so.
Term life insurance is temporary protection. For children, this is typically only purchased to provide a death benefit to the parents or gaurdian to cover the childs burial expenses should an unlikely (and certainly unwanted) death occur.
Term life does not build any cash value and has no future benefit to the child later in life. The premium payments will be increased when the policy renews. Term offers only a death benefit and nothing more. There is no investment or cash value that builds in a term policy.
Whole life insurance however, is commonly purchased for children to provide both burial expenses as well as, an investment opportunity for the child that will benefit them later on in life. Purchasing a Whole life policy for a child while they are young is very inexpensive in comparison to them buying it later on in life. Cash value begins building the end of the third year that the policy is in force.
If you make an educated decision, you can invest in your child’s future by opting for a whole life policy. The accumulated cash value at age 65 is generally enough to provide a reasonable retirement fund if the face value of the policy is great enough.
Compare quotes and policy details from several companies before making a final decision. Different insurance companies charge different premiums for the same policy face value. Get as much whole life coverage for your children as you can afford. It will benefit them and their future family long after you’re gone.
